The Butler County Commission voted to extend an offer for its open EMA position during a special called meeting Friday.
The commission will offer the job of EMA to Rita Smith, who currently serves as public information officer for EMA in Lee County. The commission agreed to a salary of $28,000 including a $4,000 one-time moving expense.
“She interviewed very well,” said Chairman Jesse McWilliams of Smith. “She’ s very versed in how emergency management works and we feel she will be an excellent asset to the county.”
Bob Luman has served as the county’s full-time EMA director since 2009 and is still serving in that capacity until a replacement is found. He resigned in December 2010.
